Convert WMA to MP3 on Mac OS X
On a Mac running Mac OS X, this guide explains how to:
- convert WMA files to MP3 format
- convert audio files from one format to another
Switch - direct download or product webpage
Switch is free program for converting audio files (for non-commercial use). An August '11 reader report noted, however, that it "expires" after some
period of time.
Most readers have reported Switch working just fine, although a few have reported consistent crashing. I unfortunately haven't had time to
verify these reports myself. The feedback form is below.
Things That Didn't Work
- Audion - although suggested elsewhere around the web and now made free it crashed on both an Intel and PPC Mac running 10.5.2.
- Audacity - an opensource program for this purpose that required installing additional libraries to export to MP3.
- iSquint - this said my WMA files were in the wrong frame rate.
- EasyWMA - the site doesn't mention the demo's limitation of only converting the first 12 seconds of your audio file.
- ffmpegX - yikes, 50MB download and the need to install additional libraries. This wasn't for me.
- All2MP3 - although a few readers have gotten this to work, most report problems One reader said it only converted part of a track and would not complete the conversion.
