35. How does the command line utility 'tmutil' work?

If you're familiar with using the Terminal, you may find the command line utility tmutil (Time Machine Utility) useful.

It lets you do several of the same things as from System Preferences, such as set and remove backup destinations. It also lets you do more advanced things, like print information about destinations, compare two backups, "re-associate" a.k.a. inherit backups that have become unassociated, and turn on and off local snapshots.
